Melbourne's trainers, coaches and a few players searched unsuccessfully for several minutes for draftee Mitch Hannan's two front teeth after they were knocked out in a training drill.
The 22-year-old came off second best in a tackling drill when he copped a stray elbow from teammate Pat McKenna towards the end of the session.
Hannan's two teeth were partially dislodged from the force of McKenna's elbow and he was taken to visit the dentist at the end of the training session.
"His two front teeth – half of them are gone so he should've been wearing a mouthguard so there's a tip," teammate Christian Petracca said.
"The number one rule, especially in juniors, was no mouthguard, no play.
"It wasn't a high intensity drill and it was up to him whether he wore a mouthguard and he obviously paid the consequences."
