Nick Larkey Biography

Sunday, 27 August 2023

Charlie Curnow claims the Coleman Medal for a second consecutive year, finishing with 78 goals for the 2023 season ahead of Taylor Walker on 76 and Nick Larkey on 71.

Friday, 16 June 2023

Nick Larkey rejects free agency to sign one of the longest contracts in the AFL, committing to the Kangaroos until the end of 2029.

"It's an awesome feeling. I can't believe I'm going to be a player here for that long," Larkey said.

"I never would have thought my career would go this way or I'd have the chance to play at North Melbourne until I’m at least 30. I'm really humbled, honoured and excited for the next five years."

Monday, 23 March 2020

Nick Larkey and Cameron Zurhaar apologize for hosting a house party hours after playing in the Kangaroos' win over St Kilda at Marvel Stadium in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The AFL has since put the 2020 AFL season on hold due to the escalating coronavirus crisis.

Friday, 15 November 2019

Nick Larkey is back training after undergoing surgery to combat the heart palpitations caused by SVT (Supraventricular tachycardia) that impacted him several times during games in 2019.

Larkey had a cardiac ablation, a minor procedure that scars, or destroys, tissue that triggers an abnormal heart rhythm.

"It was over in about an hour and I stayed in (hospital) overnight but I'm feeling good," Larkey said.

"My heart rate would go from real low sometimes to real quick, just like that, and you'd have to come off, lie down and then it'd go back to normal, so it was just good to hit it on the head.

"It wasn't life threatening or anything, it just made you feel a bit dizzy and it was all better when you lay flat on the ground but it's good to hit it on the head and now it's gone, hopefully."

Thursday, 25 July 2019

Nick Larkey signs a new two-year deal with North Melbourne to remain at the club until the end of 2021.

"I'm thrilled to have been offered a two-year deal," Larkey said.

"I love this club and want to be a part of what's to come.

"I believe we have an exciting future with the list and the talent we are developing and I'm just really excited to be a part of it."

Saturday, 20 July 2019

Nick Larkey will have post-season surgery to help prevent the heart palpitations that caused him to leave the field last week.

Doctors reportedly diagnosed Larkey with SVT (Supraventricular tachycardia), a relatively common condition for AFL footballers.

The 21-year-old also sat out the final term of his club's VFL clash with Essendon in April, and Kangaroos medical staff are closely monitoring him.

Larkey will undergo a cardiac ablation at season's end, a minor procedure that scars, or destroys, tissue that triggers an abnormal heart rhythm.

Saturday, 13 July 2019

Nick Larkey leaves the game in the fourth quarter of North Melbourne's clash against Essendon after again suffering from heart palpitations that have affected him throughout the season.

"Nick's had heart palpitations and he's been managing that for a long time. Our doctors are all over that and they've put the processes in place," North Melbourne coach Rhyce Shaw said.

"He just had a little turn tonight and obviously we'll assess him during the week, but I just saw him before and he seems fine. He's had it a couple of times (this season) and it's not a massive thing."

Monday, 8 July 2019

Nick Larkey is the 2019 round 16 AFL Rising Star after booting five goals for the Kangaroos against St Kilda at Blundstone Arena.

Two years ago, Larkey made his AFL debut against the same opponent at the same venue and became the first player in years to play a full game without having a single possession.

This time around the 198cm forward poses a far greater threat for the Bombers after tallying 17 goals in 10 games this season.

"That was an absolute stinker," the self-effacing Larkey said about his debut with a chuckle.

"I'm definitely in a much better state now. I didn't think it was funny at the time but it's funny to look back on now."

Saturday, 22 July 2017

Nick Larkey makes his AFL debut for North Melbourne at Docklands Stadium with and 2 hitouts in a 27-point loss to Essendon.

Thursday, 20 July 2017

Tom Larkey will make his debut this week for the Kangaroos against Essendon.

"I wasn't sure if they were going to wait another week. It's the best news I've heard (in) I can't remember since when," Larkey said.

"I can't wait to tell my family and enjoy the next few days and then enjoy game day, of course. It will be a great experience and I can't wait to relish it."

Friday, 25 November 2016

North Melbourne select Nick Larkey with pick No.73 in the 2016 National Draft.

"Nick has been a bit of a swingman," North recruitment manager Bryce Lewis said

"He played back for Oakleigh Chargers and in the National Championships. But he's kicked multiple goals when forward for Oakleigh and has pinch-hit in the ruck, so he's a bit of a troubleshooter.

"He still has a lot of filling out to do at 198cm, but we think he offers us some versatility as a tall."
