Harry Morrison will be sidelined for a month after suffering a hamstring injury at training.

Harry Morrison signs a two-year contract extension to remain at Hawthorn until at least the end of 2024.

The 23-year-old played all but one game in 2022 – the equal-most across his first six years – averaging a career-high 19.2 disposals and 378.7 metres gained.

After Morrison "overachieved", in his own words, by playing 21 senior games in Hawthorn's 2018 finals campaign, he bounced in and out of AFL ranks in 2019.

"I felt like in my first couple of years there were no real expectations, but as soon as you're supposed to be in the side and you're not, there's a bit of external expectation and I felt that," Morrison said.

"So it was just releasing the valve a little bit and letting go a bit. You're trying to create a mindset where you don't really care if you make a mistake and you're just having fun, which is huge for me, because I lost a bit of love for the game at times last year, because I was so consumed by it all."

Harry Morrison will wear the No.1 on his back next year in honour of his late godfather and former Hawthorn premiership player and coach Ken Judge.

Judge, who also played for Brisbane and coached West Coast, died almost three years ago on his 58th birthday after a long battle with cancer.

"As a club, we felt fans and members alike were ready to see the No.1 back out on the field," Hawks football boss Graham Wright said.

"Harry is a promising young player and a great clubman, and he's humbled to get the opportunity to share his godfather's jumper number."

Harry Morrison earns the 2018 round 20 AFL Rising Star nomination after averaging 15 disposals from 16 games this season.

"He has the temperament to become a really fine player. Will he get to A-grade status? It is too early to say definitively, but there are signs that he could," Hawks coach Alastair Clarkson said about Morrison.

Hawthorn youngsters Harry Morrison and Mitch Lewis sign contract extensions that will keep them at the club until at least the end of 2020.

"Both have shown really promising form at AFL level this year and we look forward to watching their continued growth and development in the years to come," Hawthorn’s general manager of football Graham Wright said.

Harry Morrison makes his AFL debut for Hawthorn at Docklands Stadium with 21 disposals (10 kicks and 11 handballs), 6 marks and a tackle in a 9-point win over the Western Bulldogs.

“Harry is a half-back flanker from the Murray Bushrangers," Hawthorn list manager Graham Wright.

“He has had a couple of minor injuries during the year but kicks the ball really well on both feet.

"He reads the game well and is strong and competitive.

“We are really pleased to get him."
