Mitchell Lewis Biography

Thursday, 26 January 2023

Mitch Lewis is set to miss Hawthorn's season opener against Essendon after spraining his ACL at training.

Friday, 18 November 2022

Mitch Lewis is ready for day one of pre-season after recovering from the posterior cruciate ligament injury that hampered the second half of his breakout season.

The 24-year-old displayed glimpses of what was to come last year before exploding in 2022, kicking 37 goals from 15 appearances, including two bags of five against both South Australian sides as well as three sets of four.

"I'm good to go. I just needed to rest it a little bit towards the back end of last season, but now I'm ready to tackle pre-season," Lewis said.

Tuesday, 12 April 2022

Mitch Lewis wins the mark of the round for round four of 2022.

Thursday, 30 September 2021

Lewis Young will explore his options before weighing up whether to accept a two-year deal to remain with the Western Bulldogs.

Thursday, 24 October 2019

Mitch Lewis signs a contract extension with Hawthorn to remain at the club until the end of 2022.

"He is part of the next generation coming through our ranks - we're hopeful he'll hold down a key post in our forward line for some time to come," Hawks football manager Graham Wright said.

"We're looking forward to seeing what he can produce in 2020."

Friday, 30 August 2019

Mitch Lewis will undergo a shoulder reconstruction next week that will delay his start to the pre-season.

The 20-year-old missed the Hawks' last two games because of the injury and is expected to take about four months to recover from the operation.

Monday, 22 July 2019

Mitchell Lewis earns the AFL Rising Star nomination for round 18 following a solid few weeks of footy.

Since his return to the Hawthorn forward line from being dropped after round 11, Lewis' impact has been that of a more assured player keen to impose his presence on the contest.

In his subsequent three AFL games, he has played a key role in victories over last year's runner-up Collingwood, Fremantle and top team Geelong, averaging 16 possessions (seven contested), six marks (two contested) and tallied 8.4 and three goal assists.

In this period Lewis has kicked three more goals than his nearest teammates.

Wednesday, 6 June 2018

Hawthorn youngsters Harry Morrison and Mitch Lewis sign contract extensions that will keep them at the club until at least the end of 2020.

"Both have shown really promising form at AFL level this year and we look forward to watching their continued growth and development in the years to come," Hawthorn’s general manager of football Graham Wright said.

Sunday, 20 May 2018

Mitchell Lewis makes his AFL debut for Hawthorn at the Gabba with 10 disposals (3 kicks and 7 handballs), a mark, 3 tackles and 3 hitouts in a 56-point loss to Brisbane.

Saturday, 26 November 2016

Mitchell Lewis is drafted to Hawthorn in the same year champion midfielders – and namesakes – Sam Mitchell and Jordan Lewis were traded to West Coast and Melbourne respectively.

But the connection does not end there. Mitchell Lewis wore No.53 for the Calder Cannons this season. Of course, Jordan Lewis wore No.3 in his time at the Hawks while Mitchell had No.5 on his back.

"To be honest, that didn't really cross my mind when it first started but a few of my mates made me aware of it. It sort of hit home and it's a bit of a laugh. It's pretty ironic," Lewis said.

Friday, 25 November 2016

Hawthorn select Mitchell Lewis with pick No.76 in the 2016 National Draft.

“Mitch is a tall forward who can pitch in a bit in the ruck," Hawthorn list manager Graham Wright.

"Another one who is really competitive, marks the ball really well.

"He is a project player and still very raw.

"He is a scratch golfer and an outstanding junior cricketer as well, so he’s been really good at a couple of sports.

"We think that will be a real upside."
