Sam Hayes Biography

Sunday, 17 April 2022

Sam Hayes makes his AFL debut for Port Adelaide at the MCG with 5 disposals (2 kicks and 3 handballs), a mark, 4 tackles and 20 hitouts in a 3-point loss to Carlton.

Thursday, 13 May 2021

Sam Hayes is in the mix to make his debut following a four-game suspension to fellow Port Adelaide ruckman Scott Lycett.

"I am sure he will be cracking in at training today and over the next few weeks doing everything he can," Power defender Tom Clurey said of Hayes.

"He is just a big, tall man obviously, can take a good mark and is good in the ruck. He has come on heaps over the last 12, 24 months. He is pretty much AFL ready now, which is exciting."

Wednesday, 27 January 2021

Sam Hayes signs a two-year deal to remain with Port Adelaide until the end of 2023.

“It was an easy decision to stay. The club has felt like home from the minute I stepped into it. I have a great bunch of teammates and I love the history behind the club, so I couldn’t be happier to sign on,” Hayes said of his new contract.

“It was a tough start for me doing my knee in my first year and then having no SANFL because of the COVID impact in 2020 but this year I just want to have a consistent year of footy and I’d love to make my AFL debut.”

Sam Hayes will undergo surgery after rupturing his ACL at training.

"He felt some pain in his knee after landing in a marking contest and scans have confirmed he tore the ligament," Power's general manager of football Chris Davis said.

"The fact he’s come such a long way this year, from a physical perspective, is testament to the work he’s put in since arriving at the club.

"I know he’ll attack his rehabilitation with the same discipline he has applied to his training, which will give him the best opportunity to be back early in the 2019 season."

Monday, 26 March 2018

Sam Hayes signs a two-year contract extension to remain at Port Adelaide until the end of 2021.

"Sam has impressed coaches and teammates in the short time he's been with us. His work around the ground is good and he’s already improved his aerobic capacity," Power football manager Chris Davies said.
