Luke Edwards Biography

Thursday, 31 October 2024

West Coast delists Luke Edwards after he decides to step away from football to focus on his recovery from multiple concussions.

"I am stepping away from the game currently due to concussion reasons to allow me the time to return to full health," Edwards said in a statement.

"With the support of my family and the club, I will take all steps required to prepare myself for the next steps in my life."

West Coast will add key forward Oscar Allen and midfielder Luke Edwards to its inactive list, ending the season for both and freeing up list spots in preparation for the NAB AFL Mid-Season Rookie Draft.

Allen, who has not played this season, has endured a frustrating battle with a stress-related foot injury that first flared in February, with the young star in and out of a moon boot since.

Edwards, meanwhile, endured osteitis pubis in the pre-season and has been backed off at training again due to discomfort after playing three games early in his second season.

Luke Edwards makes his AFL debut for West Coast at the SCG with 15 disposals (8 kicks and 7 handballs), 3 marks and 2 tackles in a 22-point win over Carlton.

Adelaide has decided not to nominate father-son prospect Luke Edwards, son of Crows great Tyson Edwards, in the 2020 AFL Draft.

Edwards was touted as a first-round talent early in the season, but the Crows did not expect to use any of their four selections in the top 23 on him.

"We want to be fair to him and ensure he has every opportunity to enter the AFL system and the open draft looms as the best option," national recruiting manager Hamish Ogilvie said.

"Like every year, we will stay true to our talent order, which Luke remains part of, but we are not in a position to give a guarantee."

Adelaide has a fight on its hands to secure potential father-son player Luke Edwards, son of Tyson Edwards and one of the country's hottest national draft prospects.

Edwards recently told other AFL clubs he was willing to use the 2020 season, where he will play for Glenelg in the SANFL, to test the open market and that he was not prepared to make a commitment to the Crows.

It is known the Edwards family was concerned with aspects of the post-2017 season Crows camp, which was attended by Luke's older brother Jackson and which was the cause of major fallout and a breakdown of trust between the playing group and club staff.

Luke Edwards, son of Tyson Edwards, is among the prospects selected in the U17 Australian side to face the NZ Hawks this month.

Thursday, 19 July 2018

A pair of father-sons tied to the South Australian clubs headline this year's NAB AFL Under-16 All Australian team.

Luke Edwards, the son of Adelaide champion Tyson Edwards, performed well at the carnival as did Taj Schofield, whose father is Port Adelaide premiership player Jarrad Schofield.

Edwards, whose brother Jackson joined the Crows as a rookie last year, was named in the midfield of the under-16s All Australian side after averaging 16 disposals for South Australia, who claimed the division one title.

Schofield is a 178cm small forward/midfielder who averaged 17 disposals for Western Australia during the carnival.
