Geelong coach Chris Scott is confident star midfielder Tim Kelly is on track to continue his career with the Cats beyond 2019. "If you separate the footy side, which has never been in doubt - he's having the time of his life on the footy field and is playing accordingly," Scott said. "But his family life, according to him and he's said it publicly, is much better than it was. I think that has less to do with where he's living and more to do with the fact that his twins are a year older."

Bailey Scott will undergo surgery to repair a fractured bone in his left foot and faces an indefinite period on the sidelines. "Bailey is a valuable addition to our group and we will be taking a precautionary approach to his recovery," North football boss Cameron Joyce said. "He's an important part of the future of the club and has great potential. "At this stage we won't be putting a timeframe on his return (and) rather will be taking a long-term approach to his recovery."

Geelong coach Chris Scott has lauded Gary Ablett's ability to thrive in the forward line. On the day Geelong celebrated the 10-year anniversary of its 2009 premiership triumph, Ablett showed he was still a force of the competition with two goals, 28 disposals and five goal assists. "We're full of admiration for him. There's I guess some queries on the outside as to how he might accept his new role (but) so far so good it seems," Scott said. "Players who have dominated one position and got to the twilight years of their career and shifted, I think we admire the ones who can take on a new role and show the world they can play that one just as well."

Bailey Scott is the 2019 round 1 AFL Rising Star nominee after a 21-disposal, two-goal effort against Dockers in an 82-point defeat in Perth. "It was good to see that I was capable of playing at that level and could play my role for the team. The coaches seemed happy with the way I played my role but there's obviously a bit for everyone to work on," he said.

Geelong coach Chris Scott says the club still has some hope that Tim Kelly will remain at the club beyond 2019. Kelly was best-on-ground in Geelong's upset seven-point win over Grand Finalist Collingwood on Friday night, racking up 31 disposals, nine clearances, six inside 50s and two goal assists. "Anyone that thinks it's a foregone conclusion that Tim Kelly is going to leave Geelong is mistaken," Scott said. "I'd probably repeat the comments that Tim's made already publicly, that none of us can predict the future. He's really driven to win a premiership with Geelong."

Father-son draftee Bailey Scott will make his AFL debut for North Melbourne in their 2019 season opener against Fremantle. "He's forced his way in through his preparation in the pre-season and his performance through the JLT series, so he's truly worthy of his spot," North Melbourne coach Brad Scott said. "There was still a question mark with the step up in intensity, but I'm not concerned about his size – I'm more concerned about his strength, and his strength has been really good."

Father-son prospect Bailey Scott nominates North Melbourne as his preferred destination. Scott, son of Kangaroos premiership player Robert Scott, could also have joined Geelong as a father-son pick, while he had the option of going to Gold Coast as an academy selection. "I understand it's a draft and I have not been guaranteed by North Melbourne that I will be selected by them, although if things go to plan as they perceive the draft will unfold, then North Melbourne will select me," Bailey said. "I was asked to make a decision sooner due to the Trade Period starting, so over the weekend I went through the process."

Draft prospect Bailey Scott will meet with Geelong, North Melbourne and Gold Coast in coming weeks as he gets closer to making a call on his preferred destination. The midfielder is in a rare position where he can join the Cats and Roos as a father-son pick, given his dad Robert played more than 100 games at both clubs. But he is also a member of the Suns Academy and is eligible to join Gold Coast under that system given he has lived in its Queensland zone for more than five years.
