Boyd Woodcock makes his AFL debut for Port Adelaide at Adelaide Oval with 11 disposals (6 kicks and 5 handballs), a mark and 2 tackles in a 13-point win over the Western Bulldogs.

Port Adelaide delist youngsters Riley Grundy and Boyd Woodcock, but has committed to retaining the pair at next month's NAB AFL Rookie Draft.

"We'd like to approach the upcoming draft with as much flexibility as we can from a list numbers perspective," Port Adelaide's General Manager of Football Chris Davies said.

"Both Boyd and Riley are aware of this and have worked with us on this decision, putting the club’s needs first.

"As players, both boys have shown significant development in their football this year and we look forward to seeing more improvement when they return to Port Adelaide in 2020."

Playing the role of the pesky small forward is one that agrees with Port Adelaide draftee Boyd Woodcock.

The Power can thank 2004 premiership player Josh Carr for transforming the 18-year-old from a ball-winning midfielder to a goal-kicking dynamo.

Carr – who now coaches SANFL premiers North Adelaide – elevated Woodcock into the senior side during the second half of the season.

"Ken asked if I liked being annoying; that was a role Carry got into me in the SANFL finals, Hopefully that role going forward is something I can do at this club," Woodcock said.

"Towards that (SANFL) finals series I really got into blokes like Toby Greene, who just in that niggly sort of role can push up the ground and work hard back towards goal. If I can be half as good as he is, that would be awesome."

Port Adelaide select Boyd Woodcock with pick No.76 in the 2018 National Draft.

“Boyd played in the forward half at league level for North Adelaide this season and showed great poise and class against bigger bodies,” Port Adelaide recruiting manager Geoff Parker said.

“Boyd was very dangerous as an attacking forward for North Adelaide through the finals series but he has also demonstrated an ability to play a more defensive role if required as well.”

AFL clubs are paying attention to South Australian pressure forward Boyd Woodcock after a strong second half of the season.

"There's been interest all year in Boyd because he had such a good bottom-age year as a 17-year-old," under-18 South Australia coach Tony Bamford said.

"He's always been a really offensive player, he's got some really dangerous weapons and he's really good in the air for his size, and he has a bit of an uncanny sense of where the goals are.

"Even when he was playing predominantly as a midfielder at under-18 level as a 17-year-old, he was hitting the scoreboard often and having multiple goal assists through the midfield."
