Jackson Hately Biography

Tuesday, 3 October 2023

Jackson Hately says he was axed despite hitting career-best form in the SANFL and believes he can "match it with anyone" at AFL level after being starved of opportunity.

"I had one game as the sub where I played a quarter of footy. It's definitely the best I've been as a footballer this year, but the least amount of games I've played," he said.

"It's funny how it happens sometimes. I certainly didn't lose any confidence with what I can do at AFL level."

Adelaide delists Jackson Hately, Tyler Brown, Andrew McPherson and Tariek Newchurch.

"Andrew, Jackson, Tariek and Tyler have all made valuable contributions to our club in the varying amounts of time they have spent with us. All four players leave the club with our thanks and best wishes for the future," Adelaide general manager list management and strategy Justin Reid said.

After suffering through a groin injury in 2021, Jackson Hately is enjoying the best patch of his career so far in 2022, playing every game since round six and carving a spot in the Crows' midfield.

"Last year, going through injuries that I hadn't really gone through before taught me a lot about living in the moment and doing what I can day to day," he said.

"That was a tough year, but I feel like it's made me stronger for this year and made me more ready to take my opportunity when it came."

After dealing with illness at the start of the 2019 season, Jackson Hately will play his first AFL match for the Giants this week against Fremantle in Canberra.

Hately says GWS midfield coach and St Kilda Hall of Famer Lenny Hayes has been a massive influence on his first few months in the League.

"Lenny has been unbelievable since I got here. He's been really special for my development, and I don't think I could ever learn enough off him," Hately said.

"He's given me a lot of confidence going into this week, so I'm just going to keep learning as much as I can."

Jackson Hately makes his AFL debut for GWS at Manuka Oval with 22 disposals (9 kicks and 13 handballs), 6 marks and 3 tackles in a 24-point loss to Fremantle.

Friday, 23 November 2018

GWS select Jackson Hately with pick No.14 in the 2018 National Draft.

“Character and consistency are critical considerations for our picks and Jackson is right up there in both these areas,” GWS recruiting manager Adrian Caruso said.

“He adds real flexibility to our list.”
