Sam De Koning Biography

Sam De Koning will be sidelined for a short period after undergoing nose surgery.

"After presenting to the club's medical staff with some symptoms, Sam was sent for a CT scan where a fracture was confirmed. Following consultation with a maxillofacial surgeon, Sam underwent surgery," Cats footy boss Simon Lloyd said.

Sam De Koning will be a Geelong player for at least the next three years after signing a two-year contract extension with the Cats.

"The club has got a great culture and I want to be part of it. It's been a whirlwind 12 months and my focus is to now get back to work, come into training with the same attitude and be hungry to improve," De Koning said.

"I know there's areas I can improve on to take my game to another level and I'm excited to come in every day and work on those things to become the player I know I can be and reach my full potential."

Nick Daicos is named the NAB AFL Rising Star winner for the 2022 season.

Daicos claimed 60 votes, ahead of second-placed Sam De Koning (48), and third-placed Jai Newcombe (35).

Sam De Koning is the AFL Rising Star nominee for round 11 of 2022 after tallying 19 disposals and 9 marks in Geelong's 42-point defeat of the Crows.

Sam De Koning makes his AFL debut for Geelong at Kardinia Park with 8 disposals (7 kicks and a handball), 3 marks and 1 hitouts in a 30-point win over North Melbourne.
