Following a three-goal performance in the second game of Samson Ryan's career, Richmond assistant coach Xavier Clarke says the club has been waiting for the perfect moment to unleash him.

"We knew he had the talent, we were just waiting where we could fit him in and we think now he can slot in that forward line and then be our second ruck," Clarke said.

"It was a great second game for him, three kicks, three goals which is a pretty good return."

Samson Ryan makes his AFL debut for Richmond at the MCG with and 1 hitouts in a 40-point loss to St Kilda.

Richmond coach Damien Hardwick says he would entertain the idea of lending out young ruckman Samson Ryan to another club hit by injuries if the rules allowed it.

"Anything that gives a young player an opportunity to play the game, I love," Hardwick said.

"We've got a young kid by the name of Samson Ryan that we'd love to loan them. So he's sitting there playing forward in VFL footy. Not that I'd like to give them Samson if he's playing against us, but anything that gives a player the opportunity to play at AFL [level] we should look at, absolutely."
