Port Adelaide coach Ken Hinkley says Ollie Lord will lead the Power's forward line in the foreseeable future, taking over from veteran Charlie Dixon.

"We're optimistic around what Ollie's got for us ... he's part of our plans and we'd like to think he can be very good as a key-position forward," Hinkley said of Lord.

"He is absolutely – in the future, not today – he's Charlie's clear replacement for the way he plays. He plays very similar – very combative and very strong at the footy."

Ollie Lord will miss the start of the 2024 season after hurting his leg at training.

Lord suffered an impaction fracture in the tibia and high-grade bone bruising on the knee after landing heavily in a marking contest.

Despite strong interest from the Cats during the 2023 trade period, Ollie Lord says he never seriously considered departing for Geelong, where his grandfather is a club legend.

"I never turned my head at all, I thought my career is now at Port and I'm really happy with how I am going here and the group, the upward trajectory. As much as it was flattering, it never really caught my eye," he said.

Ollie Lord makes his AFL debut for Port Adelaide at Adelaide Oval with 10 disposals (5 kicks and 5 handballs), 3 marks, 1 hitouts and a goal in a 40-point win over West Coast.
