Mid-season recruit Ryan Maric reveals how grateful he feels for his opportunity at the top level and the affinity he has established with the Eagles.

Against Essendon, his spirit was again on show when he slotted what looked like being the match-winning goal in the dying moments at Marvel Stadium and grabbed his jumper passionately to celebrate.

"It ties back to how grateful I am to be at the club and for them to give me an opportunity. I wanted to show that spirit and how much I love playing for the club and how much I enjoy it," Maric said.

"I couldn't even put it into words how grateful I am really. Playing eight games when I never expected to get to this position, and for the coaches to back me … I love the club already."

Just over a week after arriving at West Coast via the 2023 AFL mid-season draft, Ryan Maric will make his AFL debut against Adelaide this week.

"I only got drafted a week ago. I've only been here four or five days, so to go straight in pretty quickly it's pretty crazy. I'm just over the moon. It's all happened pretty quickly. I'm so happy," Maric said.

"It's a bit of a whirlwind. My head has been spinning the first couple of days, just trying to settle into my new living arrangements and new schedule. It's all happening."
