Paul Williams Biography

Wednesday, 26 September 2012

After being sacked by Carlton, Paul Williams says what he wanted most from the Blues was the truth.

"All we wanted from the get-go was just tell us the truth, tell us exactly what's going on.
," Williams said.

"Don't try to sell us something that we know isn't happening - and they weren't quite able to do that.

That was the disappointing thing ... they will definitely learn from some things."

Carlton CEO Greg Swan defended the club's actions in their dealings with Williams' departure.

"He questioned his contract, and then the lawyers got involved, and it sort of went from there… I'm not sure what else we could have done," Swan said.

"Once the legal people got involved it probably took a little bit longer than it should have, but the contract was very clear.

"There was a three month termination clause, which has been exercised."

The fallout of Carlton's Mick Malthouse appointment begins with contracted assistant coaches Paul Williams and Mark Riley taking legal action against the club for refusing to guarantee their futures beyond this season.

"Yes we have (legally asked about their future)," Chris Pollard, who is legally representing the AFL Coaches Association in the case, said.

"At the beginning of the week, we contacted the Carlton Football Club, there have been letters of demand, but as we speak - at the moment - we have had no contact whatsoever."

Carlton has signed former Bulldogs caretaker coach Paul Williams as its midfield stoppage coach.

"Paul will bring to our club valuable coaching experience, particularly in relation to his stoppage knowledge in the midfield," Carlton coach Brett Ratten said in a statement released by Carlton.

"He has had great success as a player and has been involved in successful programs not only as a player but also a coach, so we are very much looking forward to having him join our coaching staff."

Thursday, 18 August 2011

Rodney Eade has decided against coaching out the season with the Bulldogs, with senior assistant coach Paul Williams to replace him as caretaker coach.

"I am pleased to have the opportunity to guide the club through the remainder of the 2011 season," Williams said.

"While the last couple of days have been difficult, this is a great club with a fantastic future. I am looking forward to working with the players, coaches and staff as we move into this new and exciting phase."
