After being sacked by Carlton, Paul Williams says what he wanted most from the Blues was the truth.
"All we wanted from the get-go was just tell us the truth, tell us exactly what's going on. ," Williams said.
"Don't try to sell us something that we know isn't happening - and they weren't quite able to do that. That was the disappointing thing ... they will definitely learn from some things."
Carlton CEO Greg Swan defended the club's actions in their dealings with Williams' departure.
"He questioned his contract, and then the lawyers got involved, and it sort of went from there… I'm not sure what else we could have done," Swan said.
"Once the legal people got involved it probably took a little bit longer than it should have, but the contract was very clear.
"There was a three month termination clause, which has been exercised."
